Lewy body variant of Alzheimer's disease (AD)

A form of AD characterized by the presence of Lewy bodies & Hirano bodies. Amyloid plaques are present in the usual abundance (in contrast to diffuse Lewy body disease); however, neurofibrillary tangles are few in number. It is considered by some to be one & the same as diffuse Lewy body disease (Lewy body dementia) [1]. Others [2] consider it a separate entity.
